Lauren's Journey

Lauren was diagnosed with Scoliosis (curve in her spine) in late December. We took her to different doctors, Primary Children's Hospital and Shriners Hospital and the verdict was the same, Lauren would need spinal fusion surgery. We were very surprised but at this point she had no choice. She went through a variety of test, CT scans, x-rays, blood work and more. She was accepted as a patient with Shriners Hospital, in record time. Normally it takes two months for the application process and then another six to eight months for the surgery. She had the surgery within three weeks of being accepted. I know that through many prayers and lots of faith miracles do happen. Her surgery was on February 23rd. She was not nervous when the day of surgery came. It was a six hour surgery and the surgeons were able to straighten her spine from a 65 percent curve to a 20 percent curve. She was in the special care unit for three days, where the best nurses took great care of her. She had one on one and was doing really well. The days that followed were filled with lots of special care from all the doctors, nurses and physical therapist at Shriners, she was on some strong medicine to ease her pain. As the days came and went she began to gain her strength back, the therapist had her sitting up and walking. She had lots of friends and her brothers and sister that came to visit her. She even had 4 members of different bands come in and give her a private little concert. They came to perform to the kids at the hospital but she could not get out of bed. She was so happy!! Seven days after her surgery, she was well enough to go home. Her surgeons and nurses could not believe that she recovered so fast, everyone was amazed. We have seen miracles through this journey of Lauren's. Heavenly Father has been with her every step of the way. Lauren you are awesome and we all love you very much.

Enjoy each day

I am so ready for spring, yet I cannot deny the beauty that winter brings to us. This morning I woke up to a new blanket of snow that covered the land. Part of me wanted to stay in where I was nice and cozy, but the photographer in me said "get out side and enjoy the magic." A little while later I was in Diamond Fork Canyon and oh yes it was very beautiful. It was so peaceful and the snow shined like a million diamonds on the ground. It was not very cold, the sun was shinning and I was so happy. The snow was deep and soft, this was a great day.

Winter is beautiful
